Little Flying Machines
for chamber orchestra
About
Imagine the air above you gently buzzing with the hum of thousands of pretty little flying machines. These contraptions vary from those the size of a bird to those as small as an insect. As these fantastical contraptions flit about in a dazzling ballet, they produce a beautiful sound in concert. This work depicts this event, as it occurred to me in a dream. The machines move freely at first, buzzing around without regard for each other. They soon begin to coordinate in increasingly larger groups, until they are flying in vast formations. Eventually, they begin to disperse, flying high into the atmosphere before completely disappearing out of sight.
